Due to contamination of local water supplies in mid-July, more than 2,500 individuals from the greater San Jose area sought medical assistance for symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, headaches and fever. If American citizens show any of the above symptoms, they are urged to seek immediate medical attention. The Ministry of Health and the local water authority have declared the water supply to be safe for consumption once again. As an added precaution, against a potential recurrence however, Americans should continue using bottled or boiled water, or water treated with iodine or chlorine, for drinking.
Further information on water safety is available on the website of the Centers for Disease Control: www.cdc.gov.
Please call the Consular Section at 220-3050, extension 2452 if you require assistance.
